Khalil Ajram Named Women’s Rugby Head Coach

The Seneca Sting are pleased to announce the hiring of Khalil Ajram as the new head coach of the women’s rugby team.

Ajram brings extensive coaching experience across collegiate, provincial, and national rugby pathways. Most recently, he has served as an assistant coach with the Sting women’s rugby team, where his responsibilities included defensive systems, film analysis, player recruitment, development and showcase tournaments.

The move from assistant coach to the top position is something Ajram is ready for, one that will allow him to fully implement his vision for the team.

We want to be better every time the team is together. Whether it's on the field, in film session or in the gym, we need to work to be better than the time before.”

Ajram is a familiar face and proud alumnus, having competed for the Sting men’s rugby team for three seasons (2006-08 and 2011-12). His connection to Seneca, combined with his extensive experience in athlete development and high‑performance rugby checked all the boxes during the coaching search.

Seneca Polytechnic’s Manager, Varsity and Operations, John Sharpe believes that Ajram’s connections and experience will help get the Sting back to the top of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA).

“Khalil brings an extensive and successful background in rugby. He has a proven track record in identifying athletes and developing players to reach their potential. We are extremely excited to watch Khalil work with and help develop the players and return Seneca to the OCAA podium.”

A nationally certified coach, Ajram holds NCCP Level 2 certifications in both 7s and 15s, along with training in safe sport and ethics in sport. His coaching philosophy emphasizes athlete development, accountability, and building inclusive, competitive environments.

Ajram is currently the head coach of the Aurora Barbarians women’s program, guiding the team to top‑three Premiership Division finishes in each of the past four seasons while helping develop more than 40 provincial and national team athletes. Ajram also serves as a provincial coach with Rugby Ontario (Under 18 Boys Sevens) and previously was the head coach of the Toronto Rugby U19 Girls program.

The success of Ajram’s teams at the club level is something he hopes to replicate with the Sting. Through offseason training into the preseason, the team will be working toward goals which Ajram clearly defines for his players.

“The main goal will be to empower the players to set the standards they want to set and be held too. We're really hoping to make this a player-driven program and support them to become better players and people on their way to graduating from Seneca.”

The Seneca Sting looks forward to the continued growth of the Sting women’s rugby program under Ajram’s leadership.

Tryouts will begin in late August while the regular season will commence in September.
