Kwan, Ling, Ostranski Named to OCAA All-Rookie Team

TORONTO - Humber College second-year middle Joshua Fadare (Markham, Ont.) is the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Volleyball Player of the Year.

The West Division Scoring Champion led all players in several statistical categories during the abbreviated 2022 regular season, including 119 kills, 4.58 kills per set, 1.00 service aces per set, 158 points and 6.1 points per set. He was also second with a .431 hitting percentage and 26 service aces. Also named a Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian, the West Division Player of the Year headlines the West Division First-Team All-Stars.

Cam Daniels (North Bay, Ont.) of Canadore is the East Division Player of the Year. The fourth-year setter averaged 7.37 assists per set in seven matches totalling 199 assists. Daniels also contributed 21 kills, seven service aces, 32 digs, 21 blocks and 49 points. Also named a CCAA All-Canadian, Daniels headlines the East Division First-Team All-Stars.

Jake Gomes (Oakville, Ont.) of West Division champion Humber is also a CCAA All-Canadian. The fourth-year setter was second in the OCAA averaging 9.11 assists per set in nine matches. He was also second among OCAA players with 255 total assists and third with 25 service aces. Gomes is also a West Division First-Team All-Star.

Canadore's Steve Bidal (North Bay, Ont.) is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. Bidal led the OCAA with 32 blocks and was second among OCAA players averaging 1.28 blocks per set. The East Division Rookie of the Year is also an East Division First-Team All-Star and headlines the East Division All-Rookie Team.

Dale Beausoleil of Cambrian is the OCAA Coach of the Year. The Golden Shield made the OCAA playoffs with a regular season record of 4-5, a much improved record compared to when they were winless in 18 matches during the 2019-20 campaign. The West Division Coach of the Year is also the nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year.

The East Division Scoring Champion is Ben Perreault (Brantford, Ont.) of Fleming. The second-year outside hitter averaged 4.8 points per set with 100 total points on 86 kills, eight blocks and six service aces.

Tanner Paterson (Baden, Ont.) of Fanshawe is the West Division Rookie of the Year. The outside hitter averaged 2.4 points per set with 80 total points on 71 kills, five service aces and four blocks. He also contributed 49 digs. Paterson headlines the West Division All-Rookie Team.

Reid Saxby of Georgian is the East Division Coach of the Year. The Grizzlies were 7-1 during the regular season, with their only blemish being a five-set loss to eventual East Division champion Canadore.

In addition to Fadare and Gomes, OCAA West Division First-Team All-Stars include Cambrian's Jason Diotte (Sudbury, Ont.); Humber's Rrezart Sadiku (Kosovo); Redeemer's Brayden Stoffers (Frankford, Ont.); and Sheridan's Liam Butchereit (Mississauga, Ont.) and Brendon Wrana (Thompson, Man.).

Joining Daniels and Bidal as OCAA East Division First-Team All-Stars are Algonquin's Richard Bucar (Ottawa, Ont.); Canadore's Samuel Deschenes (Ottawa, Ont.); Durham's Harrison Wood (Uxbridge, Ont.); and Georgian's Cameron Calhoun (Stayner, Ont.) and CJ Okeke (Nigeria).

The OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Stars include Conestoga's Brendan Vandergeest (Kitchener, Ont.); Fanshawe's Evan West (London, Ont.); Humber's Christopher Bowen (Georgetown, Ont.) and Maximum Crowder (Sudbury, Ont.); Mohawk's Nathan Snippe (St. Anns, Ont.); Redeemer's Jason Wildeboer (Bowmanville, Ont.); and Sheridan's Patrick Andula (Mississauga, Ont.).

Named OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Stars are Algonquin's Connor Finnie (Ottawa, Ont.); Canadore's Dion Pearson-Laviolette (Walkerton, Ont.) and Ben Thompson (North Bay, Ont.); Georgian's Samuel Thorup (St. Marys, Ont.); and Seneca's Richard Housen Jr. (Richmond Hill, Ont.), Peter Ostranski-Ayles (Toronto, Ont.) and Abel Shen Yu (Markham, Ont.).

Joining Bidal on the East Division All-Rookie Team are Canadore's Deschenes; Georgian's Cameron Chadwick (Barrie, Ont.); and Seneca's Daniel Kwan (Markham, Ont.), Nathaniel Ling (Markham, Ont.) and Ostranski-Ayles.

Joining Paterson on the West Division All-Rookie Team are Cambrian's Diotte, Mohawk's Turner Neame (Hamilton, Ont.) and Joel Sloots (Hamilton, Ont.); St. Clair's Jacob Derksen (Cottam, Ont.) and Sheridan's Connor O'Brien (Toronto, Ont.).
