The Seneca Sting (3-10) fell to the Durham Lords (10-3) in the first game of their double header 11-3.
The Lords opened the scoring in the first inning. Sabrina Stalteri reached base on an error, advanced to second base on a stolen base and then came home on passed ball and wild pitch. The Lords would strand two runners in the inning as Sting pitcher Brianna Bader was able to get a groundout to end the inning.
In the second inning, the Lords added two more runs. Marina Christie led off the inning with a double. Melissa McKnight followed with a triple and later scored on an RBI groundout by Stalteri.
From there, the Sting would hold the Lords at bay, but were unable to generate any offense against Lords pitcher Ashley Black.
The Lords blew the game wide open in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs on five hits. Christie, McKnight, Caleigh Coels and Ashley Wallace each scored in the inning.
The Sting would add a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Jasmin Namnama reached base when she was hit by a pitch and later scored on an RBI double by Bader. Amanda Van de Graaf drove Bader home with a double of her own, but was stranded at third base.
The Lords added four more runs in the seventh inning while the Sting completed the scoring with one run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Namnama reached base three times for the Sting while Bader reached twice.
Christie and McKnight each scored three times for the Lords with McKnight going 3-for-4 at the plate.
