The Seneca Sting (1-3) defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-2) in 9 innings 3-2, snapping their losing streak which had reached fifty games.
Brooklyn Armstrong, facing an 0-2 count, drove a slicing line drive down the right field line in the bottom of the ninth inning, scoring Nicole Pound for the winning run. Elation ensued on the field for the Sting, no longer carrying to burden of a two-year losing streak.
The extra innings games was set up by key plays on the Sting side all game. Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the eight inning, Hannah Rhodes scored on a single by Amanda Van de Graaf. Brooklyn Armstrong made a number of run-saving catches in centre field, highlighted by an over-the-shoulder catch on the run.
The Mountaineers opened the scoring in the third inning when Shelby Hayward drove Aimee Leduc home on a triple. The Sting answered in the bottom of the fourth inning when Van de Graaf tied the score up on a Mountaineers' error.
In the eighth inning, the Mountaineers scored on a single by Mackenzie Phillpot after Leduc reached on a one-out single.
Pound reached base three times for the Sting including scoring the winning run. Van de Graaf pitched a complete game for the Sting, allowing seven hits.
Leduc paced the Mountaineers, going 3-for-4 and scoring both Mountaineer runs. Leduc also pitched a complete game, giving up six hits.
