The Seneca Sting scored early against the Mohawk Mountaineers, but were unable to maintain the lead, falling 6-3 in the first game of their doubleheader.
Hannah Rhodes, batting second, hit a double to the outfield in the bottom of the first inning. A single by Brianne Ghaney moved Rhodes over to third base to set up an RBI sacrifice fly by Brianna Bader to give the Sting an early 1-0 lead.
The Mountaineers countered in the top of the second inning, scoring three runs thanks to three singles and a pair of walks.
Following a fourth run by the Mountaineers in the top of the third inning, the Sting responded in the bottom half. Brookelyn Armstrong led off with a single and moved around to home thanks to four straight singles to open the inning. The Sting were unable to add anymore damage and trailed 4-2 at the end of three innings.
The Mountaineers would add a run in the top of the fourth inning and one more in the top of the fifth inning complete their scoring.
Rhodes reached on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored following an RBI double by Bader.
Rhodes finished the game going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs while Bader was 2-for-3 with a trio of RBIs. Ghaney was 2-for-3 with a pair of singles.
